Prof. James Shand MBBS MD FRCP FESC is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist based in St Vincent’s University Hospital, St Vincent’s Private Hospital and Blackrock Clinic Dublin. He graduated with distinction from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK in 2003 and after completing his training in the UK and Ireland, was appointed as a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist in Derry, Northern Ireland in 2014. Over 7 years, Prof. Shand established a complex PCI (stenting) programme and led a team delivering a pioneering cross border reperfusion service for patients suffering heart attack. Prof. Shand relocated to Dublin in 2022 and as well as consolidating his complex PCI service locally, he has established a successful structural heart disease intervention programme. Prof. Shand has been actively involved in many multicentre research studies, as well as taking an active role in undergraduate and postgraduate education.
